This study found that PFOS provided to maternal mice during gestation and lactation accumulates in the myelin sheaths of their offspring, as well as that PFOS exposure inhibits remyelination in an in vitro remyelination assay. While PFOA did accumulate to a lesser extent through mother-to-pup transmission, it did not affect remyelination. These results add to the list of health risks associated with these persistent chemical pollutants.
